      Australië mist smaakmaker Kerr in eerste twee WK-duels

      Gastland Australië moet het de eerste twee wedstrijden op het WK voetbal voor vrouwen doen zonder Sam Kerr. De topschutter van Chelsea heeft tijdens de laatste training voor het eerste duel een knieblessure opgelopen. Australië start donderdagmiddag om 12:00 uur (Nederlandse tijd) aan het WK met een duel tegen Ierland, waar Vera Pauw de bondscoach is. Kerr is met 63 doelpunten topscorer aller tijden van Australië en dus is haar afwezigheid een hard gelag voor de ‘Matildas’. Australië wordt, mede dankzij het thuisvoordeel, gezien als een van de kanshebbers voor de wereldtitel. Het WK voetbal voor vrouwen in Nieuw-Zeeland en Australië is donderdag begonnen. Nieuw-Zeeland zorgde direct voor een verrassing door Noorwegen met 1-0 te verslaan.
